Authentic, Ambitious, Empowering
Hey! I'm Gemma
I started my career in HR and organisational development, and over the years my role has evolved to span commercial operations, marketing, licensing, publishing, technology, people and workplace functions. Today, as Co-CEO of Dovetail Games, I focus on driving business growth, developing our people, and ensuring we continue to create exceptional experiences for both our players and our teams.
When I joined Dovetail, we were a team of around 30 people. Today, we're a team of more than 150 talented individuals, and I'm proud to have played a part in shaping our growth, culture and ways of working. I believe successful businesses are built by empowered people, and
I've always been passionate about creating environments where individuals and teams can thrive.
Alongside my role at Dovetail, I'm committed to helping shape the future of the games industry. I joined Women in Games in 2016 and today serve as Co-Director and Ambassador Director, leading a global Ambassador Programme of more than 2,500 ambassadors across more than 100 countries. Through this work, I help create opportunities for girls and women through education, careers, entrepreneurship and leadership development across the games industry.
I am also a member of the BAFTA Games Membership Committee, supporting engagement, representation and collaboration across the UK's games industry while helping celebrate and champion the creative talent that makes our sector so special.
In addition, I serve on the Board of TIGA, one of the UK's leading trade associations for the video games industry. TIGA plays a vital role in supporting developers, strengthening education and skills initiatives, influencing policy, and helping build the talent pipeline that will shape the future of our industry.
I also work closely with Ukie and strongly believe that collaboration between studios, trade bodies, educators and industry organisations is essential if we want the UK games sector to continue leading on the global stage.
For me, leadership isn't just about business growth, it's about creating opportunities for others to succeed. I believe it's my responsibility as a leader to help forge a path forward while supporting and encouraging those around me to progress and follow that path. Seeing people develop, achieve things they didn't think were possible and grow into leaders themselves is one of the most rewarding parts of my role.
I believe high performance and compassion can coexist. I know that people have lives beyond work and that sometimes life throws curveballs. Supporting people through those moments, while helping them continue to grow and succeed, is just as important as delivering business results. Great leaders create environments where people feel trusted, valued and empowered to do their best work.
As a mum, I understand first-hand the balancing act many people face between career ambitions and family life. That perspective has shaped how I lead and reinforced my belief that people shouldn't have to choose between personal fulfilment and professional success. When people feel supported, trusted and able to bring their whole selves to work, they can achieve extraordinary things.
What makes Dovetail special? Our people and our community. The passion, enthusiasm and commitment that runs through both is something truly special. There's a shared love for what we do that is infectious and inspiring. It motivates me every day to help create an environment where our teams can thrive and to ensure we're delivering the very best experiences for our players.
